Peruse: The Dinner Guest

Hey there lovely readers!  I'm back with another edition of my most recent Peruse book box.  If you remember last time I was debating on whether or not to keep getting the box.  I actually emailed Cratejoy and found out that I could skip a month but I had to email the Peruse folks....which is what I did.  HOWEVER, we got the box anyways.  **sigh**    So, I have actually canceled my subscription completely, who knows I may pick it back up at some point because for the most part, they are fun but I'm not sure the price is worth what I'm getting.

Anywho...let's delve into the box that arrived today.  I am a wee bit excited as I have literally never heard of this book and now I am intrigued.

When you open the mailing box you are greeted with some lovely black tissue and a sticker with the Peruse name.   The tissue is folded nicely with all the goodies tucked safely inside.

Ripping that tissue paper off and you can see a few goodies right off the bat.
Let's take a look at each one.

First up we have some cheese markers.  Not something I would have purchased but honestly, I will use these.  This is one of those things I'll be glad to have when I need it.  At this point, I still don't have a clue what the book is.

A candle....yeah, yeah.  Why do all book boxes think we need candles??  I personally just toss these in the emergency candle cabinet in the event of a power outage.  Moving on.....

Ahhh, finally, the book!   And yet I've never heard of this book.  Here is what the good ole google turned up and color me very interested now.

****Update***    Well, I've just completed my reading of this book and I've just got one thing to say.  Well done Peruse book box, very well done!  This was an excellent surprise and it just may be the book that sways me to try the Peruse box again because it did NOT disappoint.

Four people walked into the dining room that night. One would never leave.

Matthew: the perfect husband.

Titus: the perfect son.

Charlie: the perfect illusion.

Rachel: the perfect stranger.

Charlie didn’t want her at the book club. Matthew wouldn’t listen.

And that’s how Charlie finds himself slumped beside his husband’s body, their son sitting silently at the dinner table, while Rachel calls 999, the bloody knife still gripped in her hand.

Classic crime meets Donna Tartt in this nerve-shredding domestic noir thriller that weaves a sprawling web of secrets around an opulent West London world and the dinner that ends in death.

The final item in the box was this cute apron.  It's a very nice apron and I'm always especially happy to have a few extras around for when folks join in on the holiday baking so it will definitely be used.

There you have it...Is it worth $50 plus shipping???  I'm not sure.  Like I said, I'll play catch up with the books I have and re-evaluate later.   I also won another book from the Giveaways on Goodreads so that should be coming in the mail in the next month or so as well.   Maybe absence will make this book heart grow fonder and I'll be ready to jump in again.  However, it would be nice to see the selections ahead of time like the Coffee & A Classic book box does, that way if something looks like a good gift I can go ahead and order and tuck it away for the holidays.   Time will tell.

For the moment I'm reading book #37 in the Bellingwood series.  Diane Greenwood Muir has created a town in our imaginations that we all wish we could visit and live in.  These books never disappoint and if you haven't read them and enjoy a good, clean murder (haha) then you should pick up the first in the series.  They are definitely a series to be read in order but sooooo very much worth it!

I'm also listening to The Ballad of Perilous Graves on audible.   I don't think I could describe this book because I still don't know what it is about BUT I'm enjoying it immensely.  The narration and music are divine and I can't imagine anything but the audible version of this book.   It's pretty hefty coming in at 465 pages and I'm about halfway through so stay tuned but it could be a 5-star book!

I finally read last year's book sensation Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cossimano and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.  I'll definitely be reading book #2 and see what craziness Finlay and Vero get into next.

Keep reading my friends, it's too hot to go outside anyway!
