The Good, The Bad & The Backsplash

Hey Peeps!!!

It's another amazing day and I'm spending Saturday sitting around the house while new painter Jose is working away on stripping cabinets and getting them prepped for another go-round.

Remember reading all the BEGET portions of the bible? You know, the ones where it seems like paragraph upon paragraph of Beget's fill the pages and you start reading them but then you start skimming.  Well, the world of home improvements has the Beget effect, one project begets another!

We had the same tile in our kitchen, laundry room, and garage entry area so we knew we were replacing that all with the same flooring so those rooms were cleared out.  While they are cleared out, we think, we should repaint.   Gluttons for punishment, we are.

Hubster assumed (haha) we would just repaint in the same color but while I LOVE yellow, the yellow was a bit too "baby yellow" and I wanted a more harvest gold color.   You can see a tiny strip of the previous yellow at the bottom up in that photo.   I bought a can of paint, came home, and painted and no lie, could not tell the difference in the colors.   Tried a couple of colors we had in the paint cabinet in the garage, but still no go so BACK to the paint store.

I ended up picking a paint named Harvest Gold, thinking I'm safe but honestly, it's not what I was going for but literally not buying another gallon of paint on this laundry room so it is what it is.

The laundry is now repainted with the new color and all the trim has been touched up.

It is ready for flooring and I wanted to paint before that went in because I didn't have to be too neat.

Well, I'm really ready for the washer and dryer to be back because I'm not sure how many more trips to the laundromat I can take.

BUT.. the plumbers were here on Friday and the laundry room now has a working sink! Woohoo, at least I don't have to wash dishes in the bathtub any longer.  Plus we picked out a smaller sink so we have a smidgy more counter space than before.     I also see the bit of touch-up I need to do around the sink but that's manageable.

Moving on!

The hood vent was installed on Thursday.  Woohoo for progress but in the process he discovered that we need to have the dryer vent exit on our roof repaired because it's coming loose and the lint is blowing in the attic which is definitely not a good thing.   Also, it's really hard to take a pic of a hood vent and it still has the protective plastic on it because..well, you know we don't trust painters very much around here.

Before we move on let's recap the Begets:
New flooring in laundry begets;
new paint; new sink; new faucet;
new light fixture

Oh, speaking of that, we did install a new LED overhead light in the laundry room to replace the outdated fluorescent light AND we put a dimmer switch on it because why not at this point.  haha

Let's move onto the garage entry area because hey, why not!

I don't have before photos but this was white and now it's the same color as my kitchen cabinets.
That's the first coat and see, it's really easy to take off those outlet covers! 😆

This is the old in-between Abogg's and Mere Bears' room

Long, long time ago I thought I loved this color, Koi Pond, turns out I didn't but I just never got around to repainting so no time like the present!  I decided to paint this area the same color as the kitchen and den will be when completed and competent painters are secured.  Sherwin Williams Drift of Mist if you remember and here's what it looks like thus far.  I still have all the cut-ins to complete.

Here we are so far with the new color.  It definitely brightens things up a bit.

And onto the next beget this light fixture.  It's getting replaced, this time I ordered a flush mount light because this is not centered in the area and I'm not sure why I wanted a pendant light.   I'm sure I had a theme going.  ðŸ¤·

This is the boob light (don't act like you don't call them that too!!) It will get the same fixture as the other.  They should arrive tomorrow and I'll get the trim work finished before the flurry of Monday arrives.

New floors in the garage entry area beget; new light fixures, new paint on walls, and new paint on built-in.
Seeee, it's the begets syndrome!

Now for some bad and I mean really, really bad!

This is my pool bath floor.  1) Yes, that's paint (primer) 2) No we weren't getting new floors in this room.
I don't even know how to explain this because they weren't painting this room.

This is the sink....also, was not being replaced at this time.  I mean, we gotta stop the madness at some point.   The blue paint is all in the sink and yes, I've scrubbed it.   We may have to replace the sink, countertop, and faucet in here as well.   Also, the toilet had blue paint but that came out.  I didn't ask and don't want to know how that happened.

Now, let's talk about the good, I mean like the REALLY, REALLY good!!!

Francisco was back on Friday to work on the backsplash.
Yes, it's everything I wanted and more even if it hasn't been grouted yet.

My coffee bar area with a working water filler.  I mean, come on with the tile!!

This is the microwave counter area and even with the bad paint on the cabinets I'm thrilled!

And my stove area!!!   💕💕💕💕💕

The stove is arriving on Monday too!   When that hood vent is painted correctly and the stove is installed I may never leave that kitchen!

Then I turn around and see this!!   The angels sang and I squealed!
My faucet is a touchless faucet by Kohler but it doesn't use batteries, instead, it's on a power source and that makes me sooooo happy!    If you've ever had to squeeze yourself under the sink to change batteries you completely understand my excitement.

The cup wash!!!  Y'all if you drink coffee or wine you gotta get you one of these!
It's not working yet because it needs an extender and well, we don't want someone to accidentally set something on it and create a fountain.  You can bet when it's hooked up I will be rinsing every cup we own

Here's the sink side of the island.

When you see appliances going in you get really excited!
Also, the ice maker is not white, that's the protective coating still on it.  But I think the STOP sticker adds a nice touch.

And finally!!

My really large sonic icemaker!   I am sooo excited and ready to have ice again.  Now if we want ice someone has to go buy it, bring it home, and attempt to find a spot in the freezer for it.   Most of the time it's not worth it so we just deal without ice.   I'm firing this baby up as soon as Hector gives me the green light!

That's all for today because you've probably nodded off by now and don't even care about our dinners last week.  We'll recap on a slow day and don't worry...we've eaten out a lot so you're not missing much!

Peace, Love & Backsplash!
